Additional Material

Purpose

Use this page for optional additions when you have extra time, a more confident cohort, or a strong local example to work with. The best extensions still deepen judgement rather than simply adding more AI content.

Optional Extensions by Theme

How AI changes research work

  • Ask groups to map where AI reduces effort and where it removes natural pauses for reflection.
  • Compare a research task completed manually, with AI support, and with over-reliance on AI.
  • Use a short case where speed improves output quantity but weakens checking discipline.

Documentation and workflows

  • Show a lightweight AI use note and ask what is missing.
  • Workflow design activity: where should AI help, where should it stop, and where should documentation happen?
  • Compare a sensible narrow agent idea with one that automates the wrong kind of judgement.

Optional Demonstrations

  • Demonstrate how a stronger prompt improves usefulness more than a role prompt alone.
  • Show how AI output changes when you move from “answer from memory” to “use only this source”.
  • Walk through a simple policy-checking workflow from source to summary to manual validation.

Useful Artefacts to Prepare

If you want richer discussion, bring one or more of the following:

  • a weak and strong prompt pair
  • an AI-generated summary with missing caveats
  • a short example of an AI use note or disclosure paragraph

Extension Design Principle

If time is limited, choose one richer case study with a strong debrief over several disconnected mini-tasks. In AI teaching, depth usually beats breadth.
