Course README
Responsible Use of Generative AI
Responsible Use of Generative AI is a short course for researchers and research support staff who want to use AI more selectively, transparently, and defensibly.
What This Course Contains
This course section of the site contains:
- two introductory lesson pages and an applied research workshop
- learner preparation and reference material
- instructor notes and optional extensions
- course-level information about contribution, conduct, licensing, and learner profiles
Course Scope
The course supports participants to:
- understand how AI changes research work and judgement
- design stronger prompts with clearer boundaries
- validate AI outputs against real sources
- document AI-assisted work in a lightweight but useful way
- recognise when AI use should remain manual rather than automated
- select and verify AI support for literature reviews, research design, analysis and grant applications
Course Position in the Programme
The course combines two 60-minute introductory lessons with a modular applied workshop within the UoN Digital Skills programme. Sessions can be delivered separately. Allow approximately two hours for the applied workshop and confirm selected coverage and breaks with the teaching team. It uses synthetic examples and can be completed without paid AI access.
