Discussion

Discussion

Use these prompts after the Power Automate module:

  • Which routine process in your area would benefit most from automation?
  • What should still require human review or approval?
  • What data would the flow need to read, write, or send?
  • Who should own the flow and its connections?
  • What would a failed run look like, and who should be notified?

Turn the Discussion into a Process Sketch (5 min)

Work in pairs with a fictional request, such as booking a shared research instrument. Avoid entering live participant or staff data.

  1. 1 min: name the trigger, requester and process owner.
  2. 2 min: sketch the input, decision, output and authoritative record; identify one step that needs human judgement.
  3. 1 min: describe a failed or repeated run and the action that prevents a duplicate effect.
  4. 1 min: two pairs share their checking step with the room; the instructor asks what evidence would show the process worked.

Keep: the sketch, one risk and one test. If no tool is available, the sketch itself is the output. Use the Additional Material to turn it into a small test plan.

Debrief: a useful proposal has a clear start, structured inputs, a recorded decision and a named owner. A flow that sends a message but leaves no durable state may be hard to diagnose or restart safely. Several designs can work; assess them against the process requirements rather than button choices.
